FUT and SMP

At NHT EUROPE

At our NHT centre, we make it a point of honour to inform our patients so that each of them can make a free and informed choice.

Indeed, when making a decision about a hair transplant, many of you want a lot of information and details in order to make the best possible choice.

Our surgeons and our experienced team are present and by your side to help you see more clearly and make a realistic, coherent choice leading to excellent results according to your expectations, wants and needs.

This is why we invite you in this section to learn more about some techniques that we do not practice in our centre, but which could help guide you in the right direction.

The FUT technique (Follicular Unit Transplantation)

FUT was the most widely used hair transplant technique in the world for a long time until 2015.

This technique consists in removing a strip of scalp 1.5 cm to 2 cm high and 15 to 25 cm wide from the back of the head (donor area).

Only a plastic surgeon, in France, is authorized to perform this, seeing as this is a purely surgical procedure, unlike FUE, which is less invasive and performed perfectly throughout the world by doctors with different specialities and by nurses.

This technique has often been compared and opposed to the different FUE techniques that we practice in our centre. This type of hair transplant process also called a "strip transplant".

It leaves a transverse, linear scar on the occipital part of the head; this scar is most often thin and invisible with hair a few inches in length, but sometimes widens, and can become extremely unsightly, preventing a patient from having short hair.

Some people often ask for this scar to be corrected. The quality of this often depends on the skin tension at the time of the suture; if there is too much tension, if the resection is too large, the scar gradually widens.

On the other hand, the procedure is painful and sometimes results in paraesthesia on the head (sensitivity disorders).

The results, contrary to what is sometimes advertised, are no better than with a much less invasive FUE.

This technique, in our opinion, only exists due to a lack of mastery of FUE, which is now the benchmark procedure.

We no longer perform it in our centre, except in the event of a specific request from the patient.

However, some competent teams use it successfully. As always, it depends on the experience and skill of the teams.

Micropigmentation

SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) sessions can allow you to:

  • Hide your scars
  • Conceal your baldness or hair loss
  • Complete your hair transplant

Scalp Micropigmentation is possible for both men and women.

It is a form of scalp tattoo, initiated by a tattoo artist, performed with medical pigments.

Carried out by professionals, point by point, SMP aims to recreate the visual impression of a shaved hair implantation and to densify hair volume.

Micropigmentation can also be used to reshape poorly structured, sparse eyebrows or fill out a patchy beard.

Micropigmentation is harmless to the skin and has no side effects. It is painless and non-invasive. For some, this is a real alternative to hair transplantation, but we do not share this opinion.

Medical pigments are small drops of ink, less than 50 µ in diameter, which allow macrophages, cells responsible for cleaning the body to phagocytize these drops of ink. The correction fades over the months and requires repeated touch-ups. This is the reason why we have stopped offering this treatment as we believe the results are sometimes unnatural.
