PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment

At NHT EUROPE

Used for several years, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) may be indicated to treat transient hair loss or baldness.

PRP therefore helps fight against baldness or any seasonal hair loss or against scalp disorders. In addition, the injection of PRP promotes hair growth.

In addition to hair transplantation, you can turn to this conventional treatment: the injection of PRP which allows very satisfactory results to be obtained. However, PRP will not replace hair transplantation. Also, it can be performed during a hair transplant to promote the conservation of grafts, their implantation, healing, etc.

As you browse this page, we invite you to learn more about PRP injection. Discover the many benefits that come with it.

Why use it? How do the sessions take place? What are the advantages? Is it possible to combine PRP and hair transplant? What results can you expect? What are the consequences?

Specialized in the treatment of hair loss, our team will offer you a "tailor-made" solution adapted to your problem, your desires, and your needs to reduce hair loss and give you back thicker, more beautiful and dense hair.

Why have a PRP injection?

The causes that can explain your hair loss are diverse and unique to each of you.

-It can be hereditary. These elements are now better understood with genome analysis.

-Other epigenetic factors may interfere: anxiety, stress, poor diet, taking certain medications and skin conditions of the scalp (dermatoses, infections, etc.) or after certain treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, etc.

Thanks to regenerative medicine and technical and scientific advances, the NHT centre team will curb your hair loss and improve the quality of your hair thanks to the injection of PRP.

What is PRP?

In your blood you have three types of cells: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets found in plasma.

For the injection of PRP, everything starts with taking a blood sample, which is then centrifuged to separate the red blood cells from the plasma and platelets. PRP is therefore plasma with a higher platelet concentration than what is usually found in blood. This concentration level depends on several factors:

  • the original concentration of platelets in the blood
  • the collection kit (there are many available)

These platelets contain growth factors that can revitalise and even regenerate tissue. PRP can be used to repair injured or damaged tissue. It can improve and speed up the healing process.

Platelet growth factors: there are many, including:

  • TGF: transforming growth factor, involved in collagen synthesis
  • IGF: insulin growth factor, stimulates protein synthesis
  • PDGF: platelet derived growth factor, involved in fibroblast formation and collagen synthesis
  • VEGF: vascular endothelial growth factor, stimulates angiogenesis

What are the advantages of a PRP injection?

There is no risk of rejection, it is an autologous process since your own blood is used.

This is an outpatient procedure.

The session is almost painless and always well tolerated.

There is no general anaesthetic for sensitive people, the application of an anaesthetic gel on the scalp can be a source of comfort.

Some patients have mild headaches, or even minor irritations, but this is rare.

Post-treatment effects are almost non-existent.

A few hours after the PRP injection session, minor itching may appear; this discomfort fades very quickly.

The PRP injection does not require any social eviction.

It is recommended not to wash your hair immediately or to wait at least 2 hours before washing your hair.

You can resume your sporting and professional activities immediately.

The injection of PRP stimulates regrowth and an increase in hair density is frequently observed; this is only valid for areas where hair is still present; we have not observed regrowth in completely hairless areas.

The thickness of the hair is also clearly improved in terms of the percentage of hair involved, but also in terms of thickness, in the region of 30%.

The injection of PRP prevents hair loss and this is reduced early with the treatment.

This technique gives excellent results in the vast majority of cases.

This solution reduces hair loss and allows you to obtain thicker, more flexible and denser hair.

PRP and hair transplants

Another advantage is that PRP can be used for graft preservation in conjunction with hair surgery.

This is a new approach that increases the success of a hair transplant.

Indeed, by immersing the grafts that have just been extracted from the scalp in a PRP solution, our team optimises the survival rate of the grafts.

Furthermore, the addition of plasma at the time of implantation induces neovascularisation, which considerably boosts the graft regrowth and limits the loss of implanted hair.

In short, PRP promotes the healing of the donor area.

Some teams also report partial or complete regeneration of the donor area after applying PRP to the donor area. This remains controversial, but density measurements performed on the donor area in nearly one hundred patients have confirmed this. This only occurs if PRP is applied immediately after graft harvesting.

Some patients have a density strictly identical to the preoperative density, one year after the graft. For others, the density is higher than the theoretical density that should result from the harvesting.

For some patients there is no change at all.

How do sessions take place?

The first step is to carry out a blood count and check that your platelet count is normal and that there are no conditions that would indicate that you should not be treated.

When you arrive and before the injections, a blood test is essential. Indeed, it is thanks to this blood test that the different blood components will be able to be separated and therefore your platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared. This preparation is performed under strictly sterile standardised conditions with disposable material for each patient.

This is a painless and side effect-free treatment.

The therapeutic effects lead to a decrease in the miniaturization of the follicles, stopping hair from falling out within 2 to 3 months, followed by regrowth from the fifth or sixth month. We accurately assess all of these by measuring the hair density per cm2 before treatment and after a few months. Hair diameter can also be measured, which helps assess patient response to treatment.

Several criteria must be taken into consideration:

  • Quantity of PRP injected, we inject 0.1ml / cm2 which for an area of 200cm2 (surface of the top of the head) represents 20 ml.
  • The platelet concentration in the plasma (different depending on the sampling kits).
  • Injection depth, 4 or 5 mm deep at the level of the hair bulbs or more superficial 3 mm at the level of the stem cell reservoirs; advantage of using a mesotherapy gun with adjustment of the depth of needle penetration or syringes with needles measuring 4 mm in length.
  • Frequency of injections: it appears that the activation of platelets produces biological phenomena that last about 2 months (inflammatory reaction, healing, anti-inflammatory reaction and regeneration).

It would therefore seem logical to perform these injections every 3 months, but in most specialized centres, the best results have been achieved after an injection every month, for 3 months followed by an injection in the sixth month in case of positive patient response. Then the treatment is renewed every 3 or 6 months.

While overall the responses to treatment are positive, the results are flexible from one patient to another. Recent studies have also reported regeneration of the donor area after a transplant.

What results can you expect after a PRP injection?

Over time, you will see more and more visible results. However, with growth response lasting between 2 and 3 months, repeated injections are necessary. Therefore, it is important to repeat the sessions. One session is not effective.

Strength, vitality, thicker, denser hair… The results are long lasting, natural and visible, as long as the treatment is followed.

As previously indicated, PRP injections not only reduce hair loss but also sometimes stimulate healthy regrowth, for thick, dense and full of vitality hair.
